Etta James and Johnny Otis Pass One Day Apart

It's a deeply sad day for us in the blues world.  We lost two of our national treasures, with the passing this morning of Etta James (73) and Johnny Otis (90).  Johnny  passed yesterday, one day ahead of Etta, whom he discovered as a young woman, singing on the street with her girlfriends.   Their departure from our world here, into the next, will bring to the minds of everyone, how much these two music icons influenced the music industry.  Their contribution to the music world is and will remain legendary.

Otis helped steer a list of performers to stardom, the least of whom was, Etta James.  They included Esther Phillips, Jackie Wilson, Big Mama Thornton - whose hit recording of "Hound Dog," made in 1952 four years before Elvis Presley's, was produced by Mr. Otis and featured him on drums.

They will both be deeply missed, to say the very least!

My sincerest condolences to Etta Jame's husband, sons, family, friends, colleagues and manager.

My sincerest condolences to Johnny Ottis' wife, family colleagues, friends and manager.

Their complete biography's and obituaries can be found at the links above.

Rest in peace, Etta and Johnny.  There are not enough word in the English language, to express your impact on the mnusic world.  Not to mention your influence on this artist and author.

While you rest in peace Etta and Johnny, know that you are deeply loved and always will be!
